With the support of Swiss Foundation for Landmine Victim Aid, Swizerland, NCBL conducted Mine Risk Education (MRE) in 25 District of Nepal. Those programs were divided in three phases as below:

Training of the Trainers
28-30 July, 2006

MRE Introductive Program (First Session of First day of Training Program):

Introductive program was organized on July 28 with the objectives to make aware and inform about the program to Government, Civil Society, Reporters, etc. and to run program in districts effectively and also to run program in the Maoists affected areas. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defense, ICRC, Handicap International (HI), Unicef, SDC, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Ex. Member of National Human Rights Commission, Representatives of districts were invited as a speaker.
Opening day of the Training of Trainers Program
(28 July 2006)

All of them were participated except ICRC, HI and SDC. All the participants expressed their views of the program. The program was covered by media very well. TV released the news continuously for two days. Below are the names of Newspapers who released the news.

Second session of the first day:


In this session introduction of the different districts representatives were done with their name, work. And, discussion were made on the affect of the conflict in the district.

Second day of Training program:

This day of training program was divided into five sessions. First session was on Situation of Landmines and It's Affect on Civilians. In this session presentation was made on the use of Landmines and IEDs in Nepal and It's Affects by the Army Head Quarter. After the presentation, floor was opened for questions and answers. This session was of around two hours for briefing and question answers.

Second session of the day was also on the same topic presented by Purna Shova Chitrakar. In this session the history of victims, mines used by security forces and army, mines and mine ban treaty, world wide campaign, establish of NCBL, activities, danger situation of mine in country, necessary of MRE program, etc. were described. Lastly question answer program was held. The session was upto two hours.

In the third session, participants were divided in five groups for the group discussions. Discussions were focused into two subjects.

  • Problems of Landmines/IEDs in the district.
  • Effects of Landmines/IEDs to the life hoods.
Third day of training program:

Programs on this day was divided on four sessions. Starting with the overview of the previous day group discussions in five groups is done on 'what are things can be done to reduce the risk in district'. After the group discussions a group leader presented the main points of their discussions.

The second session was Round Table Discussion on the District Level program. There the process and activities were discussed.

Third session was held by group discussion on how to run school programs effectively. This group discussion was done in five groups.

In the fourth session Purna Shova Chitrakar and Kamala Shrestha presented models of different programs.

In the same session, discussion was made on the distribution of the publication effectively. Lastly certificate distribution, evaluation and group photo session was done.


MRE Programs in 25 Districts

Mine Risk Education Programs were conducted to 25 different districts of Nepal. District level programs were organized in every districts. After the district level programs MRE programs were organized in more than 400 schools of different 25 districts. Mine Risk Education (MRE) was imparted to more than 154,000 students of those districts.
