Parliament Subhash Chandra Nembang expressed –"There will
be no debate about banning landmines and Nepal is ready to sign on Ottawa
Treaty.But, NCBL should lobby continuously and push the related authorities."
• Former Minister
and Parliamentarian from Nepali Congress, Tirtha Ram Dangol, Chief Whip
of CPN-UML,Parliamentarian Mahendra Bahadur Pandey and Parliamentarian
From CPN-Maoist,Jayapuri Gharti all committed that they are ready to
be active in Parliament to make the environment for signing on Ottawa
Treaty and to make effective policies on mine action. For this, they
will also pressurize their mother parties.

in the program, appreciated the Canadian Government for its leading
role on Mine Action and Mine Ban Activities.

Representative hoped that Nepal could be 157th State Party to the Ottawa
Convention.
Second Session

• "Role of Parliamentarians on Banning Landmines"-by
MP. Ananda Prasad Pokharel
• "Mine Risk Reduction and victim assistance"-by MP
and Former Minister Kamala Panta
• "Comprehensive Peace Accord, Mapping and Destruction of
Landmines and other Explosives"-by MP Sudarshan Baral on behalf
of MP Khimlal Devkota
• "Present Situation of Landmines and Explosives and Steps
taken for the Destruction"- by Major Prabin Khadka on behalf of
Brigadier General Dhani Das Karki, Nepal Army
Conclusion of
Seminar:
• All agreed in banning mines
• Need of effective policy for victim assistance
• Facilities under the "Policy of Nepal government on assistance
of conflict victims" and "Disability Act" should be implemented
for mine victims also.
• Need of Mine Risk Education nationwidely, especially for communities
of affected areas.
• Need of increment in Deminer teams, equipments and other resources
for immediate clearance.
• Need of regular following to the Parliamentarians in pressurizing
the Government by Parliament for Mine Action and for signing on MBT.
• Need of prompt signing on Mine Ban Treaty for Sustainable Peace
in Nepal.
